A research team at the Anhalt University for Applied Sciences in Bernburg (Saale) developed the tanning method with tasty rhubarb. Only ingredients from the root plant were used for the gentle but labor intensive process. Thanks to the final slow drying, the rhubarb leather retains its texture and form.
In addition to the rhubarb, the cow hides are also from Germany.
In order to manufacture the Rhubarb Leather® in Germany the scientists from Bernburg founded their own firm. That means shorter paths from harvest, to producing the extracts, to manufacturing the leather.
